Medicaid Means Mississippi’s working families can afford the health insurance they need to live a healthy life. Without Medicaid, many people would have little or no access to doctors and other health care providers. For Mississippi, Medicaid means hospitals, doctor’s offices, and other medical services can remain available, especially in rural communities. Medicaid also supports good-paying jobs in hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, dental offices and more.

States that have expanded Medicaid have fewer people without health coverage, fewer unpaid medical bills, and better health outcomes. We believe that Mississippi should expand Medicaid to make sure more people can get the health care they need.

Mississippi can also benefit from expanding Medicaid because the state will receive millions of our tax dollars back from the federal government.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Why Mississippi Should Expand Medicaid

Tens of thousands of Mississippians have no access to quality affordable health care because they fall in the health coverage gap. They earn too much to qualify for Medicaid and too little to qualify for health care assistance to help them afford coverage. These are Mississippians who are making up to $16,753 a year individually or are making up to $28,676 to support a family of three. Medicaid expansion will bring health care coverage to those who need it most.

Resources

Medicaid gives children and families an opportunity to get health insurance, especially those that live in small towns and rural communities. Medicaid helps to make sure the children who depend on the program for health coverage can get the care they need. Medicaid also helps families get the health care they need without causing them to go into major debt.
